Bear hunting methods: spot and stalk, baiting, hounds and calling, each legal only where the state allows
Bear hunting methods

Spring and fall

Spring bears come out of dens hungry and focused on new green growth. Fall bears are fattening up on berries, acorns and other food before denning.

Methods vary

Baiting and hunting with hounds are legal in some states and banned in others. Read the rules for the unit you plan to hunt.

Sows and cubs

Many states make it illegal to take a sow with cubs. Take time to look for cubs before the shot.

Dates, tags and legal methods change every year. Always check the current regulations.
